Canticum Chamber CHoir
Canticum Chamber Choir has presented diverse, high-quality repertoire since its inception in 1995. With the leadership of founding Music Director Emily Cox AM, the choir has collaborated with major professional ensembles and has performed in spaces from modern art galleries to state concert halls and international choral events. Canticum is equally at home in multi-artform productions and traditional musical settings. In addition to its annual concert series, Canticum has taken part in numerous special projects as the sole vocal ensemble, such as performing in both seasons of Brisbane Baroque, and as part of larger productions, such as Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Hamburg Philharmonic and conductor Simone Young, the Queensland Conservatorium’s production of Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand, and performing as the backing choir for Andrea Bocelli. Canticum’s singers are experienced choral musicians from diverse backgrounds.
Canticum seeks to showcase works which may otherwise not be heard by Brisbane audiences, and has premiered many works by Australian composers. Traditional works are also part of the group’s repertoire, as seen by their semi-staged 2020 production of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, with stage direction by Anatoly Frusin, the acclaimed 2022 production of Bach’s Mass in B Minor, and 2024’s Bach St John Passion, also staged. Canticum was proud to present the Australian premiere of Fredrik Sixten’s Stabat Mater in 2025, only the second performance of this work internationally, and they recently performed Arvo Pärt’s Te Deum with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra.
“I can’t remember being so touched by a choir from anywhere in the world as I was by yours yesterday.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon’s concert, with such an inspired and beautiful selection of works. The complex and delicate harmonies, all a cappella, blew me away. Thanks for all the hard work to bring this to us.”
