MYSTERY
SYRINX vocal ensemble present a musical journey on the theme of ‘Mystery’. The program includes four arias from Purcell’s ‘The Fairy Queen’ sung by the spirits of ‘Night’, ‘Mystery’, ‘Secrecy’ and ‘Sleep’ in a special arrangement for six-part women’s voices.
Another highlight is the premiere of ‘Amor Fati’ a composition written for Syrinx by their Alto Zoe Heflin.
Songs about Stars, the mysterious ‘Sea Litanies’ and a captivating arrangement of ‘O du Stille Zeit’ (German trad. Folk song) further elaborate on the theme.
In ‘Misra Chappu’ by Australian composer Lisa Young, Syrinx explore the driving 7/4 rhythm of a South-Indian classical Tala combined with Jazz harmonies.
Complementing the musical Mystery is Narrator Katrina Stowe, reciting texts by Shakespeare and other writers from the time of the musical compositions.

KATRINA STOWE, NARRATOR
Katrina trained in speech and drama with Dawn Langman, an Adelaide based artist and teacher who’s life’s work has been to combine the indications given by Rudolf Steiner for enlivening the art of speech formation, with the actor, Michael Chekhov’s, psycho-physical approach to acting. Alongside Dawn and another of her students, Katrina is a founding member of Heartfire Centre for Speech and Drama, an organisation developed to make Dawn’s voluminous body of work more known and accessible. Katrina is currently studying eurythmy at Pacifica College in Brisbane, another rich pathway for getting to know the creative forces that live in language and tone. She has a great love for story, poetry and music, and was thrilled to be asked to collaborate with Syrinx in this exciting project.
