SOUNDSCAPES

Join Syrinx as they take us on a captivating journey through a wide range of vocal soundscapes. From the intricate Renaissance polyphony of Gombert and Vittoria to the beautiful Ayres of Dowland and the Italian and English Madrigal by Monteverdi and Gibbons the audience is immersed in a range of ancient musical traditions both a capella and with Lute accompaniment.

Lutenist Emma-Shay Gallenti-Guilfoyle further showcases the Lute in typical dance forms of the Renaissance and early Baroque period. And perhaps less familiar but quite intriguing is the unique timbre and sonic depth of the Lute presented in a contemporary work.

Syrinx further lead into the soundscapes of contemporary vocal music. Composers like Arvo Pärt and David Lang followed and evolved from the early music traditions, looking for new forms of expression in our time. Their more minimalistic and at times deeply mystic music as well as a mesmerising work for ‘wordless choir’ by Joan Szymko expand further on the horizon of sounds and vocal colours. A special feature is ‘Amor fati’ written by Syrinx’s own Zoe Charles. And the concert concludes on the ethereal ‘Ave Regina coelorum’ by Rihards Dubra.
