PROGRAM

The program opens with Bohuslav Martinů’s Three Madrigals for violin and viola. A vibrant, folk inspired and playful work full of rhythmic vitality and wit. Written in the twentieth century but drawing on older dance forms, the piece sparkles with colour and spontaneity.

Beethoven’s Serenade in D major, Op. 25 follows — a work from his early Viennese years, brimming with sparkling virtuosity and refined beauty. By turns lyrical, humorous and warmly conversational, the Serenade reveals Beethoven’s gift to blend sophistication with pure joy.

The concert concludes with Zoltán Kodály’s Serenade, Op. 12, heard here in a compelling arrangement for flute, violin and viola. Deeply rooted in Hungarian folk idioms, this fiery and passionate masterpiece brings the program to a powerful and evocative close.
